I Have a Working Camera Again

December 21, 2011

After months not having a fully working camera my SLR has been returned from Nikon of Upstate New York.

My focus points are accurate again.

The big deal was a sensor plane that was off calibration. What appeared focused through the lens and to my eye - even accounting for age, left or right eye variations, diopter calibration, focus points against distance against aperture - wouldn't necessarily be in focus in the actual shot. When shoting I would have to dial back a little on the focus ring, guessing a focus point that would work for the sensor while it appeared blurred in the viewfinder. That was just ridiculous, but I needed tourist photos in Japan so I dealt with it during that time.
