Empty Scooter

I wonder, when I see the machinery typically used by elderly folks curbside for pickup, that someone isn't utilizing it because they're no longer alive. Walkers, scooters, oxygen machines – these are devices essential to people until they are not.

Maybe this scooter was left out for pickup because the motor's bad, or springs in the seat have gone soft. Maybe it has been replaced by a newer model with someone presently scooting around in it.

"Them's good wheels," a man said.

He pinched and pushed the controls. The scooter did not move.
