The Scenic Route Home

Like kids tying sheets around their necks after seeing Superman and hoping they could fly, I followed an urge to mimic what I just saw in a movie. I dropped out of communication and took the long way home. Somewhere around 1pm I started walking south. All credit goes to having just seen seeing a matinee of Gravity at the East Village AMC.

A subway ride would have taken 8 minutes. The walk got me home about 6 hours later.

I walked through lower Manhattan, over the Brooklyn Bridge to Downtown Brooklyn, and then up to Williamsburg. I took a few photos along the way – Instagraming none of them – and stopped for a sandwich and to warm up at Brooklyn Roasting Company near the Navy Yard. There I read the last short in George Saunders' Tenth of December. Man, what a great book.
