I'm in Pittsburgh for a private event shoot tomorrow night. The guests have been instructed to wear longjohns and bring a pillow. That's all the hosts are telling them so that's all I'll divulge here. I met with Nathan, one of the hosts, to discuss the gameplan and aesthetics for the night.
Darkness is a key part of the experience. I don't want to disrupt it with the use of a strobing flash. I decided wearing a basic utility headlamp would give me continuous, non-disruptive illumination. The headlamp will be helpful for focusing the lens in the dark and something to which the guests could acclimate. Sure, they'll only see blinding light and the outline of a camera lens if we're looking directly at each other, but I think that disorientation works with the experience.
