I'd planned on leaving early. I didn't make it out of Pittsburgh in time. Maybe it wouldn't have changed things anyway, on account of the storm. I drove through rain and storms the entire 400 miles back to Brooklyn.

I was back in Pittsburgh for the weekend to hit Pap's birthday brunch. The party begins at precisely the amount of time it takes to get Pap and Grandma from St. Alphonsus after 8AM mass in Wexford over to Aunt Pat and Uncle Rob's house in Ingomar.

My sister and I had lunch at the new and luxurious Whole Foods in Wexford. Afterwards we went over to visit with the old folks. Grandma's looking a little frazzled but the Christmas cacti and the poinsettia are blooming on time, as usual so everything's OK.

As per the new tradition, Aunt Pat cooked breakfast and I made dinner. We were never strongly religious in my immediate family but we still perform our American duty for Christmas day.
